— Dr. Arturo Gideon[1]

Hosts are people that have sufficiently solidified their sense of self, unconsciously allowing a Voice to take residence in their mind. All people who reach this mental state are hosts. [1] Though no solid age is given for hosting, a developer noted "My experience of people is they tend to crystallize sometime in late youth, and though they may gain sophisticated methods to lie to themselves, the core of who they are is very, very hard to change from then on".[2] This type of personal development allows a Voice to take full hold on their mind. THEE-I-DARE says for hosts, "ALL BUT ONE [Voice] FADE". [3] A person can influence which Voice they will one day host through their actions, words, and behaviors, according to THEE-I-DARE.[citation needed] Voices do however use automatic behaviors to nudge the minds of their hosts and potential hosts towards their ideologies. These automatic behaviors would be colloquially known as "zoning out", such as driving an overly familiar route, or time spent scrolling social media. [4]

The Voices are entirely dependent on Hosts to interact with the world at large. THEE-I-DARE is careful to say of the Voices that "WE NEVER EXISTED WITHOUT BODIES."[5] Voices exist only in the minds and bodies of their Hosts, and have no physical forms or ability to manipulate reality beyond those hosts. Their individual views on hosts differs greatly; "whatever they think about their own kind must have a clear, demonstrable contrast with what they think about hosts. It's really the only dimensionality they're allowed, because they're otherwise just an idea, self-replicating."[6] THEE-I-DARE has also shared how Voices "DO NOT LEARN EASILY" and typically require a host or Chosen to implement change in them. [7] When a Host dies, a part of the Voice does too.[8] Hosts are also the only medium through which a Voice can speak in Old Tongue, a language that is a combination of bodily "MOVEMENT. MUSIC. NUMBER. TIME." comprised of "COMPLEX STATEMENTS, MANY HOSTS".[9]

Dual-hosting is a rare occurrence where more than one Voice will take the same host. Rarer still are cases of more than two Voices attempting to share a host. While dual-hosting is possible, it usually quickly drives the host to a state of cognitive decay.[10] Pastor Hoadly is said to have heard multiple Voices, and was likely driven to suicide under the resultant mental strain. Similar mental trauma may occur when someone rejects a Voice, as hosts who resist a Voice often go mad. Because of this, THEE-I-DARE believes it is possible for hosts to break away from SPEAK-AS-ONE, but speculated it would be dangerous to attempt. [3] Hosts are also affected by their Voice suffering. While still very injured, THEE-I-DARE's own hosts were "stricken" by an illness of the mind, an effect of his difficult recovery after shattering CHASE-THE-SUN.

In Redacre, hosts are precious few for the Non-SPEAK-AS-ONE Voices, and their survival depends on those few. DIE-FOR-YOU explained the competition for hosts, "It can be... Fraught, especially at the… Dinner table? (dark chuckling) Limited resources, too many mouths."[11] The actions of non-SPEAK-AS-ONE hosts are largely mysterious. DIE-FOR-YOU had hosts meet with THEE-I-DARE's hosts, prior to the formation of The Pact. [12] Presumably, other allied pact Voices use hosts to communicate with each other. THEE-I-DARE is aware of the curses like No More Shadows through a child because his hosts communicate with each other about the curse.[13]

DANCE-FOR-US Hosts[ | ]

Main article: DANCE-FOR-US

Lenka Staneck[ | ]

THEE-I-DARE says Bells had a music teacher named Staneck that helps him.[14] Staneck has become despondent since DFU's demise.[15] Staneck is the one that taught Bells about The Voices.[16] The Blackout Club (HQ) has heard rumors that Staneck is "dangerous at night".[17]

DIE-FOR-YOU Hosts[ | ]

Main article: DIE-FOR-YOU

According to THEE-I-DARE, DIE-FOR-YOU had many more hosts compared to him.[12]

Maligras Quiroga[ | ]

According to Gwen, Maligras Quiroga was a host to DIE-FOR-YOU, being described as “all passion. Not scared of negative attention.”[18]

HUNT-THE-STRONG Hosts[ | ]

Main article: HUNT-THE-STRONG

When HUNT-THE-STRONG consumed DANCE-FOR-US, he claimed he obtained all of DANCE-FOR-US's hosts.[19]

LAUGH-LAST Hosts[ | ]

Main article: LAUGH-LAST

THEE-I-DARE says that LAUGH-LAST has more hosts than many know.[8]

SPEAK-AS-ONE Hosts[ | ]

Main article: SPEAK-AS-ONE

SPEAK-AS-ONE has stated in an interaction that Maligras Quiroga's spouse was a host to to them.[20] Maligras herself, according to SPEAK-AS-ONE, LIKELY HOSTED AN ENEMY but the Watcher in the interaction was not allowed to speak of it.[20]

Omar uz-Zaman[ | ]

The previous mayor, Omar uz-Zaman, was likely a SPEAK-AS-ONE host because SPEAK-AS-ONE held a big memorial after his death.[21]

Livia Perdichi[ | ]

Livia Perdichi, the mother of the art teacher Mr. Perdichi, is thought to have been a SPEAK-AS-ONE host in life because she was allowed to come and go freely from Redacre, which is very rare.[22]

Everest Biehl[ | ]

Everest Biehl, the great-grandfather of Officer J. Biehl, was a lawyer who died around 20 years ago. Everest is assumed to have been a SPEAK-AS-ONE loyalist because he officially made Redacre a town on federal maps.[23]

Horace Giménez[ | ]

Horace Giménez is a relative of Robbie Giménez, who is the origin of THE-MEASURE-CUT's quote on the sacrifice table. Over 50 years ago, Horace had to stay in a motel outside Redacre for a month, so he was likely some kind of ambassador for SPEAK-AS-ONE.[24] Grandmother confirmed that Horace used to be a host of THE-MEASURE-CUTS, but left him for SPEAK-AS-ONE and became a Watcher following his death. She said that if children encountered a watcher "who seemed odd," it could've been him. Horace also helped to design some of the mechanics within the maze.[25]

THEE-I-DARE Hosts[ | ]

Main article: THEE-I-DARE

THEE-I-DARE has had many hosts in Redacre but few are still alive.[26] Before the events of The Blackout Club (game), many of his hosts died "FOR THE CAUSE" in the Cull.[27] THEE-I-DARE states his Hosts choose him whereas the other Voices pick their Hosts.[3][28] Some hosts used THEE-I-DARE and their connection with him in a way akin to drugs in order to escape their problems, and some of these hosts never returned to the "real world".[29] Before his fragmentation, THEE-I-DARE's voice came from a male host.[30]

The few hosts of THEE-I-DARE still alive now meet with the hosts of DIE-FOR-YOU at night after DIE-FOR-YOU joined the Pact.[12] THEE-I-DARE has commented how without the eyes of all of his hosts and the hosts of other Voices, the Pact lacks "SOME WITNESS OR EVIDENCE OF WHAT HAPPENED" the night of Isabela Madi-Shaw's disappearance to the point where "NOWHERE IN REDACRE WILL STAY HIDDEN".[31] Despite gaining more hosts post-Cull, the Harvest still threatens his hosts.[32] The shattering of the Triskellion in 922 Hoadly sickened THEE-I-DARE's hosts.[33]

Ailisa[ | ]

The Arches
ArchesFragment (Ailisa)
Ailisa (pronounced "Ale-ee-sa") was a girl who had REACHED HOSTING AGE and was barely older than the Kids, who was SO GIFTED in music according to THEE-I-DARE. Ailisa had an ear for music that was flawless. CHORUS apparently wanted someone like her. She helped construct and tune the Instrument when it was much smaller than it is today. Ailisa also helped TID in secret. THEE-I-DARE recalled she was taken during the "Great Cull" of TID's hosts to A SYSTEM OF ARCHES (referring to The Arches). Her story was recounted to a player in an Interaction with THEE-I-DARE.[34]

In another conversation, THEE-I-DARE said that Ailisa had PERFECT PITCH, explaining further that SOME HUMANS SING PERFECTLY and HEAR NOTES VERY PRECISELY. THEE-I-DARE mentions about the Instrument that WHAT I KNOW OF IT, SHE GAVE ME and that if we were to trick the instrument somehow, WHAT SHE KNEW WOULD BE OF USE.[35]

I NEVER CAME WHILE HE LIVED. HE WAS ALONE, which means that despite being a follower of TID, he never met him or spoke to him. but he kept believing. TID further says WHAT HE HEARD OF ME... IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO INSULAR., claiming that the information that Elkins had about TID was limited, and that NO OTHERS TO CORRECT OR CONFER., so he could never know if the information he had about TID was even real. TID ends by sayingELKINS. I WILL NOT FORGET YOU.[39]

THEE-I-DARE told a group of players that THEY MADE ONE OF MY HOSTS BATHE. DREW THE WATER, OPEN HIS WRISTS. BY THE TIME WE FOUND HIM. TOO LATE. during the "Great Cull". CHORUS knew he would never join The Song and made him cut his wrists open in his bathroom. THEE-I-DARE believed this host owned a home. After the players the interaction find the correct house (#1001 Hoadly), they enter the downstairs bathroom. THEE-I-DARE expressed visible anger, calling "them" BASTARDS.[41] In another interaction, THEE-I-DARE explained that SPEAK-AS-ONE's Hosts surrounded his house used the Old Tongue to prevent bruising and make it appear as if Graham's death was a suicide. I BELIEVE THEY SURROUNDED THE HOUSE. MANY, PERFORMING THE CODED BINDING IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT. EVEN HIS WILL...WOULD HAVE FALTERED, WITH THAT MANY. [42] THEE-I-DARE then explains to the players in a later interaction that Graham was SUBTLER and LASTED LONGER. TID then expresses his mind is clarifying by finding fragments of his name.[43] In a third interaction, THEE-I-DARE describes Graham as A REBEL BORN, WARRING INSIDE.[3]

Upon looking up Graham's name in the Dead Skeptic database, Devin discovered that he lived with two people named Kerri and Sharon. There are records of them moving in, but soon are gone. Graham was brought in as a contractor, and due to the length of his work, he was allowed to buy a house to live in.[44] THE-MEASURE-CUTS shared a memory of Graham working with one of his hosts to install cell towers in the trees.[citation needed]

Upon answering a prayer about Graham Culver, Grandmother reminded the players that Watchers lose memories, or more accurately, SPEAK-AS-ONE takes those memories. She doesn’t know what exactly Graham did to deserve his fate, but she said SPEAK-AS-ONE is not precise in what memories they take. According to Grandmother, Graham owned a small, sleek boat on a private dock, which she believed he built for himself, as well as gear for climbing cliffs. Those items were destroyed by SPEAK-AS-ONE, which means he used them for something SPEAK-AS-ONE wants hidden. Whatever he did cost him his life. Grandmother also said they didn’t remove the memories of their attempt to alter his mind subtly in his sleep. His death was a drastic fallback. His mind was too strong for his own good.[45]

THEE-I-DARE speculated that Graham saw something in his boat that drove him to climb. He commented that whatever he saw had permanent consequences, and pointed out that the only other time SPEAK-AS-ONE acted swiftly was with Bells. He theorizes that Graham and Bells saw the same thing.[citation needed]

919Closet FragmentImage
In an interaction, a player asked TID about the closet fragment. TID told the player YES. JOEL. TID further says JOEL TRIED TO RUN AMATEUR RADIO, the player assumed that he made the radio for the TBC, but TID corrected him saying NO. HE WAS AN ADULT, which means there were some adults that tried to work in secret, hiding from CHORUS. TID further says HE WAS SO VERY LONELY. HE MADE A FEW FRIENDS THROUGH IT, which means the radio was very important to Joel. Unfortunately as the player later learned BUT ONE OF THEM WAS PART OF CHORUS. SHE TRICKED HIM. MASTERULY. MADE HIM EXPOSE HIS FRIENDS, meaning that CHORUS used Joel to track and run down every other person involved with the radio. At the end TID states HE ...ENDED HIS OWN STORY, which suggests Joel committed suicide.[46] THEE-I-DARE recalls that Joel's radio contacts sounded mostly young, like children. At this time, the Voices did not yet contact children directly, so they would not know who Joel was talking to.[47] THEE-I-DARE says his hosts choose to share what memories THEE-I-DARE is allowed to access when they die. He says Joel chose to share little, and wondered if Joel was ashamed of his past. THEE-I-DARE says Joel was young and felt guilty for living with family. THEE-I-DARE assumes it was a matter of not having the money for his own house.[48] Joel requested that THEE-I-DARE never ask about his family. THEE-I-DARE didn’t wish to offend Joel and pry into business he didn’t want to share.[49] Joel was a local to Redacre, not a part of THEE-I-DARE’s army, but he wanted to be like them. He busied himself with his radio project before he was conned. THEE-I-DARE says there are hints in Joel’s memory about that person claiming to be from the outside Redacre or able to get him there.[48]
