Interaction Information

Date: April 23, 2021
Player(s): Patchrabbit, Hasty, Suma, Zarton
Interacted With: SPEAK-AS-ONE
Major details from the Interaction:

  • SPEAK-AS-ONE comes to talk to Suma about her worry about hearing that Old Tongue can hurt them and that Grandmother can be called using it. Old Tongue can harm them, but they aren’t afraid of the Pact. They do find Grandmother to be a problem; within the Song, she can hear anything they say. She continues to grow and change, keeping SPEAK-AS-ONE from learning her name, but they plan to tempt her into a trap.
  • Hasty, unbeknownst to the others, began an attempt at calling out to Grandmother through Old Tongue the moment she was mentioned. She is suppressed as punishment.
  • The Watcher expects that that which is hidden to them will be revealed once the Voice pair is relieved of their role, and they say that more and more of theirs cross the border into Redacre every night. During this time, Suma has her name fragments burned.

Transcript:
(Patchrabbit is passing by Shadow People as she heads out of the Maze to join Suma and Zarton by a recently-captured stalker.)

Suma: Lucid. You are in the way.

Patchrabbit: I just went through a tunnel of…

(Suma laughs.)

Patchrabbit: Shadow Person on either side of me.

(Hasty down in Dream Therapy, shoots a Sleeper with her crossbow.)

Patchrabbit: (quickly) Here I come!

Suma: Zarton, did you see the thing?

Patchrabbit: (gasps) OH!

SPEAK-AS-ONE: SUMA. THE OLD TONGUE CAN HARM US…

Suma: Oh… (soft laugh) Okay…

Patchrabbit: Um…

Suma: (sighs) Yeah… She wanted to know what’s going on… about this because she had heard that the Old Tongue is getting… used more frequently, now, by the others.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: AS TO THE PACT. WE DO NOT FEAR.

(Patchrabbit gets taken to the Cryptogram Library while Hasty gets taken to the Plexus by Shadow People.)

Suma: (with relief) Oh, that’s always good to know.

Suma: Also, before she forgets, she has a request, might she…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: THE VOICE IS NOT AFRAID OF THEM. YET…

Suma: …have those fragments burned?

Suma: Before she forgets it again.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: THE RENEGADE IS A PROBLEM.

(Hasty begins to gesture “Prove Thy Fault”, unknown to the others and speaking too quietly for them to hear.)

Suma: True…

Suma: She wants to… apparently fuse with this…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: IN THE SONG. IT HEARS ALL WE HEAR.

Suma: ...with the Grudge Queen.

(Patchrabbit returns to the surface, intending to regroup with Suma.)

Suma: Is there a way to… remove it from the Song, in a way, or… is it too well hidden from prying eyes?

SPEAK-AS-ONE: WHATEVER IT IS. KEEPS GROWING.

Suma: Yeah, she has heard as much from others, that it collects more… to its name to… probably have a name that fits that of… the Voice, even.

Zarton: (text) And increasing people’s faith in it.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: CHANGING. WE TRY TO LEARN THE NAME

Suma: It’s hard to probably learn that name, though. We are only aware of a few of those name parts, and not… all…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: WE BELIEVE...

(The Angel comes out, targeting Suma for a brief moment before targeting Patchrabbit.)

SPEAK-AS-ONE: IT WILL NEED TO BE TEMPTED

Suma: Tempted? But… that…

Suma: Getting to that might… be difficult because it is… cautious.

Suma: Very cautious, and tries to avoid… us at all cost.

Zarton: (text) Well it does desire a certain savant

(Patchrabbit waves at Suma after meeting up with her.)

SPEAK-AS-ONE: WE ARE AWARE. EVEN NOW. IT HEARS.

Hasty: (whispers) Prove…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: BUT AS THIS ZARTON CHILD SAYS…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: THERE ARE THINGS IT WANTS

Zarton: Oh, I quietly mentioned the, uh, the savant.

Suma: Oh!

SPEAK-AS-ONE: IT LIKES RATS. YES? WELL.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: LET US SEE HOW IT LIKES TRAPS.

Suma: (intakes breath) Ohhhh, nice. That does sound…

Hasty: (shakily and quietly) Prove…

Suma: (with laughter) …Interesting.

Hasty: (shakily and quietly) Thy… Fault…

Suma: (off-mic, quietly) But, would, eh…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: YES. PRIDE BINDS THEM ALL.

Suma: (off-mic) But, yes, can she please have those stains removed from her, she really doesn’t want to carry them around any longer.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: DONE.

Suma: (off-mic) Thanks.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: TRUST IN THE VOICE. SUMA.

Suma: Annnnd she does.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: WE WILL NOT BE LED ASTRAY LIKE…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: SOME OTHERS OF OUR KIND.

(The Angel’s focus is switched to Hasty.)

Patchrabbit: (soft noise of understanding)

Hasty: (softly) Hello…

Suma: The Song will remain…

Hasty: (simultaneously, pained noise)

(Hasty gets suppressed by the Angel, alone in the Plexus, and the Angel retargets Patchrabbit.)

SPEAK-AS-ONE: A CHILD SEEKS TO BRING HER

SPEAK-AS-ONE: TOYS WITH THE OLD TONGUE BELOW

Suma: ...Oh?

Suma: Oh, no…

Patchrabbit: (anxiously) Hastyyyyy…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: ALONE. WEAK.

Suma: (simultaneously) Oh, no.

Suma: Yes.

Suma: Alone… does not work… At all.

Suma: It will has—it will have to learn… not to… question the Song.

(Patchrabbit rapidly glances between Hasty in the Plexus and the path leading between the Nerve Center and the daycare, watching for the Angel as she idles, waiting.)

SPEAK-AS-ONE: WHEN THE VOICE CALLS US TOGETHER…

(The Angel switches targets to Suma.)

Suma: (breathes out) Nope! (off-mic, to self) This is not good… This is not good…

Patchrabbit: Um…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: AND THEY ARE AT LAST RELIEVED…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: SURELY THEN. ALL WILL BE REVEALED

Suma: Mmmm once everyone is in the Song, it will probably be peaceful, at last.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: THE PLACE. THE TIME. UNKNOWN. BUT…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: MORE OF OURS CROSS THE BORDER…

Suma: That is also good to know, that they are getting… closer.

SPEAK-AS-ONE: EVERY NIGHT. SOON…

SPEAK-AS-ONE: SUNDOWN

SPEAK-AS-ONE: REMAIN VIGILANT. WE SPEAK AS ONE.

Suma: We speak as one.

(Patchrabbit waves and blows a kiss.)

Suma: (hesitantly, after a pause) Haaastyyy?

Zarton: (after another pause) Well. That was interesting.

Suma: (laughs)

Patchrabbit: Mmmmm-hmm.

Suma: (laughs) (with breathless, relieved amusement) My god… Literally, Zarton, what the hell did you say?
