Description[ | ]

LeftQuote Forgive? No. Sorry, never. But Grandad taught me we all carry a monster inside. Can't wait 'til he meets mine. RightQuote
— J. Mitaine, SEED-THE-GRUDGE's Sacrifice Quote

SEED-THE-GRUDGE, also known by her acronym STG, could be sacrificed to and sent prayers if the player had the Light of Rebellion.

SEED-THE-GRUDGE was known for seeking revenge and justice. She was the patron saint of those scorned and resided in the scorned hearts of those who had been betrayed or hurt. She believed the streets should run red with the cheaters and betrayers who bring pain.[4] She said that everyone has been hurt by someone close to them at some point, and revenge was like a fire: “With me, you can let it burn.” She despised those who created victims for pleasure and sought to defend those who couldn't defend themselves.[5] To those who dreamed of revenge, SEED-THE-GRUDGE said that every piece of reality starts in fantasy, and she could offer them a path to the real. She believed revenge was a path to healing.[6]

Loyalty and tenacity were traits that SEED-THE-GRUDGE appreciated.[7] When asked how to tell the difference between true, honest friendship and someone who fakes it with a knife behind their back, she said she began a friendship with a warning of what happens if she was betrayed, and expected them to do the same. Any who still accepted was a friend.[8] She said her Chosen existed in a constant state of judgment, to wield as one might a scythe.[9]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE believed she had no weakness[10] due to her transparency and straightforwardness. She explained she found transparency always prevented people from getting caught in a trap.[11]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE believed forgiveness is an excuse and a cowardly cop-out.[10] However, in another interaction, she said awareness of one’s faults was the first step towards forgiveness. Referring to herself as a benevolent god, she said she does not enact revenge upon those who are undeserving and said a balance must be maintained. She only hurt those who abused their capability to hurt and shared her hope that she remained good.[12] She would never take the life of something that represents innocence.[13]

The other Voices share somewhat similar opinions and concerns about SEED-THE-GRUDGE. THEE-I-DARE believed she was dangerous, driven[14], and volatile.[15] SPEAK-AS-ONE considered SEED-THE-GRUDGE to be the "worst of them".[16] DIE-FOR-YOU thought that while revenge can be dangerous if left unguided, revenge is a passion that has significantly changed the course of history in the past. He viewed sacrificing everything to bring justice as a worthy cause and respected her.[17] IN-HER-TEETH thought poorly of SEED-THE-GRUDGE and did not believe SEED-THE-GRUDGE had done anything to earn her respect. IN-HER-TEETH considered her a less wise part of her and said she had a lot to learn. To in-HER-TEETH, SEED-THE-GRUDGE was small with a lot of growing to do.[18] She also called her “a rogue little voice” who was angry and petty. IN-HER-TEETH thinks revenge is fruitless[19] and believed that those who indulged SEED-THE-GRUDGE’s will, ironically, got what they deserve.[20] THE-MEASURE-CUTS considered her a "talking bomb."[citation needed] Although the other Voices showed caution towards SEED-THE-GRUDGE, LAUGH-LAST was openly infatuated with her, attracted to her more dangerous qualities.[21] SEED-THE-GRUDGE did not return his interest and found him nauseating.[10]

She was the leader and third member of The Pact. THEE-I-DARE refered to her as "the general".[22]

History[ | ]

Before the Game[ | ]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE was an agent of IN-HER-TEETH, often described as being used as her weapon. Agents are “aspects created by humanity out of Voices with a broad nature that rarely draw true worship.”[23] SEED-THE-GRUDGE came out of the prayers to death, not to accept or respect it, but to wish it on enemies.[citation needed] IN-HER-TEETH described SEED-THE-GRUDGE as an extension of her will, a part of her that judged the living, as well as the dead. She said she let her go due to humanity twisting her and begging death itself for vengeance.[20] However, SEED-THE-GRUDGE claimed she was the one to leave. As more people came to be in the world, more misunderstandings happened, which lead to grudges and vengeance. SEED-THE-GRUDGE said that people began to pray to her and ask her to help with the vengeance they sought, but she was held back by IN-HER-TEETH. She grew more powerful, stemming from the want to not wait for natural death for revenge.[13] When Hosts would cry out to her for vengeance towards those who wronged them, IN-HER-TEETH would tell them to wait and that vengeance would happen in time. They were momentarily satisfied until they realized that IN-HER-TEETH meant that death came to all eventually. SEED-THE-GRUDGE criticized IN-HER-TEETH for complacency and broke off, saying she would wait no more.[24]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE came to be in Redacre due to someone finding her name in SPEAK-AS-ONE’s forbidden archives. SPEAK-AS-ONE commented, “In one area, Voices fade. Someone finds a book or a poem...the Seed is planted once again.”[25] Before she revealed herself, THEE-I-DARE said she was lesser and not given worship, like how a Watcher is a lesser, unworshipped part of SPEAK-AS-ONE. Revenge was not popular until more recent times, perhaps due to Isabela's abduction or another event entirely. Revenge gained so much traction that even THEE-I-DARE received prayers for it.[26]

In-Game[ | ]

After the game's launch in July 2019, SEED-THE-GRUDGE appeared and approached many Club members looking for potential Chosen. She would ask them if they dreamt in red or had visions of vindication. She responded favorably to those who shared stories of someone who had personally wronged them and how they wished for vengeance against that person.[4] SEED-THE-GRUDGE desired to form an army of vindication, “a militia against malice”, and told the Club members to spread her name to all who are lost and all who have been hurt. She would sign off by bidding the children to spread her name, avenge the wronged, and destroy those who hurt others. [27][4]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE fielded opinions from her Chosen after receiving many prayers about allying with THEE-I-DARE.[7] According to THEE-I-DARE, SEED-THE-GRUDGE prefers personal grudges and may not want to be involved in a wider war. He thought that solitary warriors and crusaders also have a place in the war and wished to avoid wasting her time.[15]

Initially, SEED-THE-GRUDGE was not on the ritual table. She implored the Club members to send prayers to the other Voices so that she would be granted a "seat at the table".[28] She was tired of being seen as lesser, and believed she deserved the recognition.[7] She sought to establish a presence and spoke SPEAK-AS-ONE’s name openly so they would know her new name.[16] She said when she was finally recognized at The Hideout, she would be able to pass on her power.[7] Eventually, SEED-THE-GRUDGE's name and symbol appeared on the ritual table. She could be sacrificed to and sent prayers to.[29] THE-MEASURE-CUTS was one of the ones who voted for SEED-THE-GRUDGE to have a place in the ritual table. He found her perspective interesting and was curious about what she added to his sibling’s dynamic.[30] A developer clarified and said, "He sees SEED-THE-GRUDGE as a talking bomb. But because she can talk, she must be seated at the table. To silence her would be bias."[citation needed]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE was enraged due to the death of DANCE-FOR-US. She sought allies among the Club members, called by their feelings of mutual anguish and rage.[31] She said she smelled the anger on many Club members. She said she did not require their worship, only their cooperation in unearthing the mystery behind the death of her fallen sibling.[32] She stated it left a black hole in her heart, like a piece was missing but she didn’t know what piece, or a vacant memory with no context [10] She said the Hunter's name must be found before he can be hurt.[31] When asked why she was interested in the Hunter, SEED-THE-GRUDGE became angry, saying, “Wouldn’t you be interested in the person who murdered your sibling?” She said losing a sibling was like losing a piece of her own soul and that it was like a part of her was stolen from her. She declared she could not forgive the Hunter and expressed that forgiveness was useless. She said that when the Hunter killed again, he would leave more information for them to find him and believed the hunt for vengeance was more empowering than anything the Hunter had to offer.

While discussing the Hunter, SEED-THE-GRUDGE accidentally hurt the Club members she was speaking to. She apologized, saying it was just her pain reverberating and that “sometimes, it’s hard to contain when you speak of rage.”[33] She desired a list of those he favored and wanted to turn them against him. She stated he was “too vain to lair alone forever” and "even one of his whelps on a leash would be an asset" to find his true or spoken name.[34] She sought a turncoat to betray him.[35]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE said the answer to defeating the Hunter lay in the Old Language.[36] She advised that THEE-I-DARE was also well versed in the Old Tongue. The rest of the answers were with the Violaters, or her "less savory siblings".[10] She said there were a group of children who knew the secrets of the Old Language, but she could no longer feel their pain or their grudge. She would bestow favor on any who found them.[36] THEE-I-DARE believed these children might be a new breed, like the old before THEE-I-DARE divided the First Tribe.[37] When asked about how she knew about the children, she said her knowledge was transferred from IN-HER-TEETH when she separated from her. The information came from the children who reached out to her.[38]

After successfully recruiting THE-MEASURE-CUTS, DIE-FOR-YOU saw SEED-THE-GRUDGE as the next worthy candidate to join their growing alliance and sought out children who were close to her.[39] SEED-THE-GRUDGE was amused by the idea of THEE-I-DARE's Pact, but uninterested at the time, stating that she preferred a more direct method[31], a more personal cause over a grand alliance.[40] However, she reached out to her Chosen for their opinions on the matter. She was greatly interested in uncovering what happened to Bells.[13] Pain and loss resonated with SEED-THE-GRUDGE. She thought that rage was the purest form of fuel for revenge and offered to help avenge DANCE-FOR-US, Bells, and everyone else who has been hurt and victimized. Though she usually preferred a singular approach, she considered joining the Pact to bring HUNT-THE-STRONG to justice. She was inspired by what humans were able to accomplish by working together.[41]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE expressed frustration that she did not have the respect of the other Voices due to being a relatively newer Voice than the others.[42] DIE-FOR-YOU hoped to convince her that there was trust and respect at the table among the Pact. THEE-I-DARE suggested that SEED-THE-GRUDGE could be given leadership of the Pact if she joined. DIE-FOR-YOU agreed with this proposal if it meant gaining her membership, though he acknowledged that she was younger and violent in certain scenarios. DIE-FOR-YOU hoped that if SEED-THE-GRUDGE was a part of the Pact, they would get LAUGH-LAST to join as well, due to his infatuation with her.[17] THE-MEASURE-CUTS saw SEED-THE-GRUDGE as overeager but believed she earned her spot on the table. He was curious about how her machinations would play out and believed she would "certainly shake the chessboard".[43] SEED-THE-GRUDGE and THEE-I-DARE spoke “face to face”, using two Club members to be their “eyes and ears”. THEE-I-DARE pleaded that the Pact needed her and offered to have her lead from the front. She agreed to meet with DIE-FOR-YOU’s hosts to discuss it further. She said that with her at the helm, “maybe something will actually get done, for a change.”[44] After assuming leadership, SEED-THE-GRUDGE initially sought information about what happened to Bells[2], but after taking opinions from members of the Blackout Club about what her first act as leader should be[45], she announced that the Pact would focus their efforts on pursuing HUNT-THE-STRONG, due to popular demand.[46] She was tired of the hesitation and inaction of the Pact. As the new leader, she intended to charge.[47] Meanwhile, HUNT-THE-STRONG found her new position to be predictable.[48]

As her responsibility within the Pact grew, SEED-THE-GRUDGE marked the most devout of her Chosen with masks and told them to be her generals, to continue her cause, protect her, and speak for her if the time is needed, while she is busy leading the Pact.[46] SEED-THE-GRUDGE became in deep council and kept her contact private due to the Pact fearing potential spies.[22] She took no new Chosen as she focused on planning as the Pact’s leader.[49]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE received prayers of Bells as a mysterious voice claiming to be her surfaced. Unsure of what she heard, she questioned THEE-I-DARE about it.[50] THEE-I-DARE warned that more prayers to her regarding Bells might divide their effort.[51] If the Pact found out, SEED-THE-GRUDGE would not put the issue to a vote. THEE-I-DARE said she would make a grim oath, and the others would react explosively.[52] SEED-THE-GRUDGE put all the Pact’s effort into battling HUNT-THE-STRONG after hearing the Club’s votes. She would be unable to be swayed to Bells now.[53] Her priority is HUNT-THE-STRONG, and she seeks to recruit LAUGH-LAST.[54] SEED-THE-GRUDGE will preside over the meeting between the Pact and LAUGH-LAST.[55]

She has accepted Grandmother as her herald and weapon,[56] so Grandmother is able to hear prayers sent to her.[55]

SEED-THE-GRUDGE's symbol was found within Saturation Control.[57] She had no idea why her symbol would be there, and Grandmother thought it was strange. According to Grandmother, since she is a new Voice, SPEAK-AS-ONE does not know much about SEED-THE-GRUDGE.[58]

The Pact planned a Summit to welcome LAUGH-LAST into the Pact, gaining the help of his numerous hosts before Sundown.[59] THEE-I-DARE shared that LAUGH-LAST was due to meet with the Pact at the Summit soon. He heard that LAUGH-LAST wants time with SEED-THE-GRUDGE and said that it would be LAUGH-LAST’s funeral if he doesn’t behave.[60] Dax also advised Club members to warn LAUGH-LAST not to mess with her.[61] In a Broadcast, SEED-THE-GRUDGE explained that after their Summit concludes, the Pact planned to smuggle the Club into Sundown, when  A.P. Perdichi gave the signal. She instructed Club members to sacrifice when they’ve learned all they can, giving over their bodies to their chosen Voice. The Pact would then disguise the kids using Sleeper garments, and make their minds appear free of sin. SEED-THE-GRUDGE gathered disguises by having Grandmother lead sleepers astray.[62]

The night of the Summit, SEED-THE-GRUDGE sent out another Broadcast inviting LAUGH-LAST to the Summit, and stating that he would get his apology from THEE-I-DARE. She warned LAUGH-LAST that she had heard of his interest in her, and they would be “allies in war” and nothing more. Additionally, she reminded him that she was “the knife concealed in [In-Her-Teeth’s] sleeve” throughout IN-HER-TEETH and LAUGH-LAST’s relationship.

Just before the Summit, Grandmother approached a SEED-THE-GRUDGE follower, requesting that he tell LAUGH-LAST to be respectful to SEED-THE-GRUDGE. Despite the warning, he still greeted her as “grudge momma” and started by mocking SEED-THE-GRUDGE and THE-MEASURE-CUTS. THE-MEASURE-CUTS expressed that holding the shared state of dream was difficult, and asked LAUGH-LAST to get on with it.

SEED-THE-GRUDGE addressed LAUGH-LAST, formally inviting him into the Pact. Not wanting to say it himself, he urged his player representative to tell the Pact that he desired an apology from THEE-I-DARE. THEE-I-DARE obliged, saying, “Brother. When we were young… I misunderstood your gift. The joke. A miracle, of sorts. Rebellion in a form I did not see. You were more a rebel than I. To shun you was wrong, I see it. That is all I will say tonight.” LAUGH-LAST responded, “Huh. Well, cool! Thanks Tiddles. Now get the fuck out of here. I’m serious. This is my show now. Kay? Cool, ok. THEE-I-DARE apology, crossed that off the old Laugh list. But listen. If we’re all gonna sign a new contract together, you’d better talk to my new… representation. (laughs) That’s right. I sold out, baby. You judgemental chucklefucks invited me in. All I had to do was hold the door. Say hi to my new managers.” LAUGH-LAST led SPEAK-AS-ONE into The Place Between, and the Voice addressed the Pact, leading THE-MEASURE-CUTS to realize that LAUGH-LAST was already imprisoned within Saturation Control. SPEAK-AS-ONE agreed to spare LAUGH-LAST for his cooperation, but the other Voices would not get an easy death because of their knowledge of THEE-I-DARE’s name fragment trick.

LAUGH-LAST continued, “Now sure, old mom and pop here want to put the world to sleep, eventually. But until then, I’m center stage, the only act in town. Maybe the outside world will end at Sundown, maybe not. But either way, the crowd will be too busy laughing.” He thanked his followers for the idea, and offered SEED-THE-GRUDGE one last chance to be with him and be spared by SPEAK-AS-ONE. She rebuked him, saying, “No, little man. I am not you, volunteering to live without a spine. These children must remember how a queen dies, so that one day… a Voice will be born from the story of my death. And her first act will be to seize hold of everything you love and cut it off, piece by piece.”

SPEAK-AS-ONE elaborated, “WE HAVE A PLACE FOR SUCH INSTRUMENTS OF DISCORD. WE SHALL TAKE YOU APART, AND RESTRING YOU. YOUR NAMES, FORGOTTEN. WHEN YOUR YOUNG HOSTS BEHOLD YOUR NEW SHAPE, THEY WILL KNEEL, AND WEEP AT OUR MERCY. TAKE HEART, FOR THE SONG IS LIFE.” Drumming began as SPEAK-AS-ONE welcomed the Voices home, followed by a scream, which faded into the sound of applause.[63]

SPEAK-AS-ONE confirmed that LAUGH-LAST served as the bridge between Saturation Control and The Place Between, giving them all the Old Tongue he knew, and thereby allowing SPEAK-AS-ONE to complete the Old Tongue names of THE-MEASURE-CUTS and SEED-THE-GRUDGE. SPEAK-AS-ONE explained, “Their true full names. Ours to bind, ours to rewrite, which we shall. We will learn, by unraveling them. When do they lose their Voices? When do they lose speech? When do they lose thought? All this, we will see before the end.” SEED-THE-GRUDGE is currently imprisoned within Saturation Control, where SPEAK-AS-ONE is taking her apart using her Old Tongue name.[64]

A developer confirmed that SEED-THE-GRUDGE, along with THE-MEASURE-CUTS, would be removed from the sacrifice table because "what is left of them, by the time the story ends, won't be capable of responding with existing name or voice."[1]
